This oil on canvas on thick wood board is textured to the touch. A flurry of busy deliberate brushstrokes with impasto fill this painting with animated interest. The houses are grounded on the horizon, stone facades with clay roofs. Signed: Binjé - Frans Binje (1835-1900) Frans was the pupil of Henri Vanderhecht, representing what was called the Tervueren School. He took part in the Blanc et Noir exhibitions, notably in 1886 with View near Brussels. Binjé's landscapes are executed in a blurred style, with indistinct features and indefinite colouring, but a heavy touch. (Benezit).
Condition: The painting is in overall good antique condition, but you should expect imperfections associated with age such as darkened varnish. The frame is quite possibly the original, expect imperfections and losses throughout, however for the age both the painting and frame are in good condition.
