Antique landscape oil painting by Belgium artist, Frans Binje , signed in the lower right corner.
This oil on canvas on thick wood board is textured to the touch.  A flurry of busy deliberate brushstrokes with impasto fill this painting with animated interest.  The houses are grounded on the horizon, stone facades with clay roofs.  The countryside has a myriad of green hues and the sky is also animated because of the multi-directional brushstrokes applied by the artist.

Medium: Oil on canvas on wood board

Overall size: 21ins x 16ins or 53cms x 41cms

Date: Mid 1800's

Signed: Binjé - Frans Binje (1835-1900) Frans was the pupil of Henri Vanderhecht, representing what was called the Tervueren School. He took part in the Blanc et Noir exhibitions, notably in 1886 with View near Brussels. Binjé's landscapes are executed in a blurred style, with indistinct features and indefinite colouring, but a heavy touch. (Benezit).

Condition: The painting is in overall good antique condition, but you should expect imperfections associated with age such as darkened varnish.  The frame is quite possibly the original, expect imperfections and losses throughout, however for the age both the painting and frame are in good condition.
