Stunningly atmospheric dog portrait from the late 1800's signed in the lower right J Compagne.  This painting was inspired by the paintings of Alexandre Gabriel Decamps who painted basset hounds in 1836.  I think the breed had longer legs and shorter ears then!!  Nevertheless, this is a cute painting, full of authenticity, a sideways look, good colouration and the all important large authentic antique frame...

Medium: Oil on cardboard

Overall size: 23ins x 19ins or 58cms x 48cms (Approx)

Date: 1800's

Signed: J. Compagne

Condition:  This is an antique and you should expect wear and tear associated with age such as wear to the canvas, missing paint and imperfections throughout, some varnish discolouration and minor/small old renovations.  The frame has damage throughout such as missing moulding, renovations and in particular you should expect all back four corners to be damaged (see photo).

This painting is sent fully insured, track and trace with Colissimo.
