This wonderful old gentleman oil portrait on canvas, in the style or taste of the 18th Century is fabulously atmospheric and most typically French.  A gentleman sits in a black Redingote and embroidered waistcoat with a gold trim.  His starched shirt collar is super high and probably super uncomfortable.  His shirt is secured with 3 buttons, one of which is different to the other which is interesting....

Medium: Oil on stretched canvas

Overall size: 14ins x 17ins or 35cms x 43cms

Date: Early 1800's

Condition: This painting is over 200 years old.  What can I say?  It's lived a long and eventful life.  There is a lot of craquelure which appears stable.  Renovations, missing paint etc.  It's quite likely not in its original frame, but the frame is antique and also shows signs of wear and tear, has renovations and the usual indentations etc. However, the whole is incredibly charming and very presentable.

Signed:  No.  There is an inscription on the wood chassis but it is ineligible.

This painting is sent by Colissimo track and trace and fully insured.
