Beautiful portraits don't come much better than this!  A rare, delightful dark and moody portrait of a woman from the 1800's in the most wonderful original frame.  She looks out through the darkness of time, in true chiaroscuro fashion, her face emerges from the darkness and what a face it is!  A true beauty with the deepest brown eyes, hair tied back and all that there is to see really, other than her amazing face is the detail of the traditional lace collar and locket.  It's a truly elegant time worn piece that would grace, feature and add warmth in any room....

MORE ABOUT THIS PAINTING:

Medium: Oil on stretched canvas

Overall size: 13ins x 19ins or 41.5cms x 48.5cms (all measurements are approx).

Date: 1800's

Condition: This painting is in very good antique condition.  It has craquelure throughout that, in my opinion, only adds to the authenticity of the piece.  There are a few faint lines across the canvas, from imperfections in the weave and a small mark at the bottom middle on the canvas which is gold in colour and I can only guess has been there since the year dot, possible from the gold leaf on the frame.  And mentioning the frame, it's beautiful and probably the original for this canvas, a few areas of missing moulding but nothing onerous, very strong! All told it adds up to a very lovely authentic piece.
