Nany!  A very appealing original dog oil painting by Belgium artist, Louise Danse, it's signed in the lower right and dated 1898.  Nany may well have been Louise's own pet.  She is painted on canvas and is more than likely in her original frame.   The canvas is textured to the touch.

Condition:  The painting appears to have been untouched, some darkened varnish and craquelure.  The frame looks to have had a renovation and has some missing moulding.

Date: 1898

Signed: Louise Danse  also known as Marie-Louise Danse (1867-1948) was a  Belgium artist and printmaker.

She was the daughter of Adele Adrienne Meunier, who was the sister of artists Jean-Baptiste and Constantin and Auguste Danse, an artist-engraver who was also her first engraving teacher. She had a sister Marie. In 1905, Louise married lawyer and man of letters Robert Sand (1876-1936).

Throughout her life and even after her marriage, Louise was recognised as a talented printmaker. She produced a varied body of work including engravings, drawings, watercolors, frontispieces, book illustrations and paintings. In 1906, she was a founding member of the artistic circle L'Estampe.
