French still life oil painting on canvas on board beautifully painted by French artist, Léon Parent (1869 - 1943), signed in the top right and faintly dated 90. This is an exceptional painting, full of detail by a very competent artist. It shouts, 'Normandy' to me. Oysters sit on a plate, ready to eat, a lemon ready to slice and squeeze. Perhaps a glass of cider or beer, a carafe or pichet of wine and salt. The detail has not been spared and the technique of this artist, impasto thickened oils laid on the canvas with exuberant brush strokes is a joy to the eye. The composition is truly stunning with layers of detail.
