A wonderful old dark and moody 19th century female oil portrait, signed and dated precisely on the back of the canvas, 20th October 1860. It's a very beautiful but unsophisticated portrait. A young woman sits for the artist, her hair tied neatly back, she wears a dark dress trimmed with lace and beading which is complemented by a little brooch.
