Antique French female oil portrait. This is a wonderful old painting, coming from the mid to late 1800's It's unframed and unsigned but not unloved as I think it has been well looked after through the ages because of its good condition. A woman sits and looks direct at the artist. She is middle aged and dressed in black. She is most likely a widow as she wears a portrait around her neck, possibly of her late husband. Her hair is set in quite a severe, off the face style and crowned by a black bonnet which is tied loosely around her neck, above a white frilly collar. It's a very simple portrait, but highly effective and would make a good centre room statement piece.
