Antique French female head and shoulders oil portrait in a gold coloured frame from the 1800's. This is a pretty little treasure. A study of a young woman in a light blue/grey jacket which sports a beautiful frilly lace collar. The woman's hair is tied back into what looks like a plaited bun topped by hair decorations. Its a simple but charming, endearing and totally effective little portrait on a good thick wood board, the frills give an otherwise smooth board texture and interest.
MORE ABOUT THIS PAINTING:
Medium: Oil on thick wood board.
Overall size: 9ins x 12ins or 23cms x 30cms (Approx)
Date: Mid 1800's
Signed: No
Condition: A good visual piece with imperfections associated with age, particularly around the edges of the painting. The frame has damage throughout, missing plaster/gilt which to me adds to its authenticity but if you like perfection, then its not for you. I am not sure if this is the original frame, but the style is Napoleon III which dates 1808 - 1873 and would certainly match the date of the painting.
