Antique French impressionist still life oil painting original framed French floral oil painting of red peonies by Alice Carissan (1869-1964). This is an impressive impressionst oil painting on thick board by a sought after French female artist, you can read about her long life below. It was probably painted for one of the Salons she frequently showed at and most likely would have been painted in the 1910's/20's. It's in a wonderful old Art Deco frame with shells.

Signed: Alice Émilie Élise Marie CARISSAN (1869-1964) Alice grew up in a deeply Catholic music-loving family, open to the graphic arts and literature. Her male siblings were professors or naval officers and her sisters were teachers and accomplished musicians.
She lived in Saint-Jean-d'Angély until the 1920s. She exhibited in local salons from the end of the 19th century. In 1898, for example, she exhibited in Rochefort, but was already known to have exhibited previously in Saintes and Cognac.
By 1920, she was living in Paris, on the Place du Palais Bourbon and she was represented by the Georges Petit gallery.
She was a member of the Syndicat des Artistes femmes, a member of the groupe Artistique de Saint-Nazaire, where she exhibited every year (mainly bouquets of flowers, sometimes interiors, sometimes landscapes), a member of the Association des Artistes professionnels, and from 1920 a member of the Société des Artistes Français
Her works can be seen at museums in Rochefort and St Jean d'Angély.
Condition: This painting is in good condition for its age, minor imperfections throughout including missing paint and an indentation in the board top left, the frame is Art Deco and has imperfections throughout particualrly at the corners where there has been some renovation.
