An bold and colourful self portrait of the artist Denise Calle (1915-1998), signed in the lower left corner and dated 1938. This unusual portrait has plenty of eye catching interest. With typically 1930's attire and hair style, the artist looks at herself, while she sits in front of a landscape painting, probably painted by herself. A slightly naive composition which cleverly brings out the artist's personality. She wears red lipstick to match a red scarf, the blue reflected light on her blouse brings out the colour of her eyes. The canvas is textured to the touch.
