Set of 2 Antique French Oil Painting of a reclining Woman in Landscape by French artist Paul Michel Dupuy (1869-1949).  A charming set of oil on wood panels from around the 1920's by a renown artist.  These paintings are not signed but there are inscriptions on the back stating the artist, PM Dupuy and that it was bought from the artist's family in the Pays Basque, a French region near to the  Spanish boarder and the Pyrenee Mountains, close to Pau where the artist lived and worked.  This looks to be a painting of a member of the family, perhaps the artist's wife.  The paint is applied thickly and quickly, dashing over the 'en plein' wood board and in true impressionist style, concentrating on the outlines and allowing the eye to complete and bring together the artist's composition.

Condition: The paintings are in good antique condition.  The frames are vintage and you should expect imperfections associated with minor wear and tear.
Signed: No, but attributed to Paul Michel Dupuy (1869-1949).  He was a pupil of Léon Bonnat, he exhibited every year at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1897 onwards, became a member of the jury and was classified as hors concours. His works are held at the Musée du Luxembourg and the Petit-Palais, as well as in numerous fine arts museums, including those in Philadelphia, Sydney, Pau, Saint-Étienne, Bourges, Vierzon, and Roubaix. The painting Le Luxembourg is in the Palais du Sénat and Bateliers au port Henri-Quatre is in the Petit-Palais. The Ministry of Agriculture features the decorative panel Le Blé and the decoration of the grand salon.  Paul-Michel Dupuy was a brilliant colorist influenced by Impressionism and was described in his day as a “painter of life and movement.” He particularly enjoyed depicting scenes of children in parks, public gardens, or on the beaches of the Basque coast and Biarritz.
