Vintage Fauvist oil painting on board by French artist Albert Pietri, signed by the artist in the lower left corner. This exuberant and cheerful oil painting jumps from the board to make quite a statement!  A woman leans against trees that are probably in blossom, so it's a bit of a Spring piece.  With bold but not in your face colours and thicker demonstrative brushstrokes this is a fun and lively Fauvist oil painting and the result is a raised textured board which adds another dimension to the piece.  If you are not familiar with it, Fauvism is seen as an extension of impressionism, following on from the post-impressionist work of Van Gogh and the neo-impressionism of Georges Seurat. It was the first real avant-garde, modern art movement of the 20th century and the first era to move toward abstraction in any discernible way.
