A classic portrait of a young man reading 19th century dark and moody oil on wood by Belgium artist Francois Du Mont its signed in the bottom  left and dated 1875.

Signed: DU MONT François.  Born 1850 in Brussels, 19th century. Belgian.He exhibited in Antwerp and Ghent in 1870, then took part in the Paris Salon in 1884 and 1885.  Du Mont painted classical scenes in the troubadour style, with many musketeers and belle dames. He also enjoyed painting still lifes with beautiful flowers on dark backgrounds in vibrant colors.  He is known for taking great care with each character, their facial expressions as well as their body language.
Condition report:  This painting is in overall good condition, but you should expect imperfections associated with age such as minor areas of missing paint and sme yellowed varnish.  The frame is vintage expect minor imperfections throughout.
