Why have one nude when you can have three? Large oil on board of three nudes in a landscape by French artisit René Mendès France (1888-1985). This post impressionist oil painting is ideal for a bathroom. Using a variety of brushstrokes, some barely covering the canvas board and some heavy use of impasto especially on the poplar tree to give definition. It’s a good triangular composition with a backdrop of a lake and the outlines of perhaps a village on higher ground. The forestry background in dark earthy tones and the ground covering lush green only serve to highlight the naked body forms which are scultured from paint mixed on the canvas. It's been a while since I last posted but I'm back now and this beautiful painting is a great way to say hello again. It's by Pierre Cornu a well known French artist who made the fantastic and rare achievement of reaching 100 years old in 1995, he unfortunately died the year after. Pierre, of the Provencal school, was a pupil of Othon Friesz and was influenced by the Fauves, in particular by the paintings of Cézanne and Bonnard. His canvases were often featured in the great Parisian salons, and he exhibited regularly with Auguste Chabaud and René Seyssaud in Marseille. He was an epicurean, in love with women and their beauty, celebrating them through his artistic creation and this painting is no exception. It's on the website now or you can find it in my ETSY shop
