Antique oil on wood portrait of a woman by Belgium artist, Eugine Smits 1800s. This delightful painting in its rich and powerful tones and scultured impressionist paint layers is very attractive. Here, the artist has chosen to paint his subject sideways on. This elegant woman wears her hair up in a loose bun. The background is dark to highlight the contours and lighting on the face, whilst the autumnal tonal elements the reds and browns in her hair are a delight to the eye. The wood board is slightly textured to the touch.
