Signed: Leon Garraud (1877-1961) Leon was an artist from Lyon. He had his studio at 3 de la Place Edgar-Quinet and lived on the rue de Seze, a true Lyonnaise. He was a quiet, demure man with a huge admiration for the landscape artist, François-Auguste Ravier (1814-1895) who also come from Lyon.
From 1920 -1926 he often sent his work for exhibition to the Societe National des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as did the best artists in France. His portraits were very well received and many personalities of the day wanted him to do their portrait, however he refused to be based in Paris, prefering to stay in his beloved Lyon.
During the 1920's- 1940's he painted for the well to do families in Lyon, portraits, landscapes and still lifes. However, during his last days, close to being forgotten, he still lived in his old apartment on the rue de Seze, he died at the age of 84. He was featured in the The Guidargus de la peinture, which surged his popularity.
Condition: This painting has been preserved under glass and is in good condition, you should expect minor imperfections on the frame.
