Antique oil painting on stretched canvas of a Breton marketplace by French artist Alfred Victor Founier signed in the lower right.  A very charming and animated piece of art by a well known and respected French artist.  Here, the artist has painted freely and at speed, his brushstrokes capturing an everyday scene in Brittany but making it interesting and animated.  Woman, wearing traditional costumes busy themselves at the market, baskets on arms to carry their purchases home.   The canvas is textured with layers of thickened paint.
