Antique impressionist portrait of a woman carrying a water vase by Russian/French artist, Jean d'Alheim (1832-1894)  It's on a thick wood board most likely oak.  Very unusual and totally enchanting.   This is a luminous painting, where the artist has beautifully captured the light that bounces off the old stone wall and framed it with foliage of varying hues of green against a sky of the deepest clearest blue.  The woman walks majestically down to a stream to fill her vase with water.  The artist has added a lot of detail here, for instance, the cascading shrub with its flowers of yellow and orange and if you look carefully, through the entrance, you will see a domed church.  The board is textured to the touch with areas of raised impasto.

Condition: This painting is in good antique condition. Expect natural imperfections on the wood board and small losses of paint throughout, particularly at the edges.  The frame is vintage, not the original, expect wear and tear associated with an aged pre-owned item, here they are losses of paint, indentations, nails at the corners etc 
Signed: Jean D'Alheim (1832-1894) Jean was born in Russia and died in Paris.  He was active in France and Italy.  A painter of genre scenes, landscapes, landscapes with figures, seascapes and flowers.  Jean exhibited at the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1866, 1875 and 1878. In his Provençal, Italian and Russian landscapes, colours dissolve and fade into one another and the figures are for the most part merely suggested.  His paintings are in a number of museums, namely Béziers, 'Pins maritimes à Antibes', Nice 'L’embouchure de la Roya 1869', Roanne, 'Vallée houillère près de la Ricamarie' et 'Femme au bain' and Troyes, 'Vue de Raguse'.  Jean is listed in Akoun as 1,650€ for a painting 65 x 50cm or 15P.
